Kielder Forest and Lake

The second week of my Easter holidays brought a family holiday to Kielder Forest and Lake. I took this as a good oppurtunity to get out the under used mountain bike. Kielder is a forestry commission site and has some good purpose built trails (that can link up to Newcastleton 7 stanes) and a lakeside trail that circumnavigates the lake. My first ride was around the lake route which was excellent with some open air art sporadically placed. The man made lake and the early hour I was out with no one on the trail did make it a bit creepy at times but a fun ride on the bike. My second ride was just a quick blast from the lodge to Kielder Castle and back. My 3rd ride of the holiday took me on to the red route "The Lonesome Pine". I started on the route and then did a section of the "Bloody Bush" before heading back to the lodge on a long fun fire road descent. Id love to come back to the place and do all the routes proper including the cross-border route. Great place and great to be back on my mountain bike!
